Casa de Balcón (Escuela de Gastronomía)

Municipality: Santiago de Tolú

The Casa del Balcón is a true architectural gem located in the Gulf of Morrosquillo region. It was restored in 2007 with the purpose of becoming the headquarters of the School of Gastronomy and Tourism of the SENA, an institution dedicated to training in the culinary and tourism field. This house has two floors and stands out for its beautiful balcony running through the main facade. In the restoration, the mosaic tile floors on the first floor and cement on the second floor have been preserved, as well as the original facade walls that have a structural function. The colonnade of the house is composed of seven columns on both floors on the front, and four columns on the side. These columns support an architrave on the second floor, on which is a balustrade that protects and hides the cover of the house. In the courtyard of the building, three Alebrijes collect rainwater, which are structures four meters high by two meters in diameter. In addition, a meeting kiosk, a traditional mud oven and a three-story building were built for the school’s training processes. The terrace of Casa del Balcón is spacious and has an "L" shape. In this space are carried out various social and learning activities of the school. It is a charming place that offers a unique environment to enjoy special moments and learn about gastronomy and tourism in the Gulf of Morrosquillo region. Casa del Balcón is undoubtedly a sample of the traditional architecture and cultural heritage of the region, its restoration and adaptation make it an emblematic space that contributes to the development and promotion of gastronomic and tourist culture in the region.
