The Plaza del Monumento al Padre de la Patria is an emblematic place in Lorica and one of the main symbols of the city. Initially, the square was known as "hermitage square" due to the presence of a small hermitage in its surroundings. However, over time, it was given the name of Plaza del Monumento al Padre de la Patria in honor of Admiral Padilla and his contribution to the independence of Colombia. The construction of the square began in 1930 and was completed in 1939. Its design includes an imposing obelisk that rises to a height of 7 meters. At the top of the obelisk is a representative figure of an eagle, which symbolizes majesty and authority.
