If you travel to the Colombian Caribbean, an unmissable place to enjoy the relaxation of its beautiful coasts and crystalline waters is Isla Múcura, a paradise that has fabulous virgin beaches and is surrounded by spectacular marine fauna and flora. Located in the department of Bolívar, 2 hours from Cartagena and 1 hour from Tolú, it belongs to a group of ten coastal islands in front of the magical Gulf of Morrosquillo. 

Along with Tintipán, Múcura is considered one of the most spectacular islands in Colombia, as it has beautiful virgin beaches of white sand, totally clear waters and one of the largest coral reef barriers in the country. Múcura is a beautiful natural reserve that is located within the Los Corales del Rosario and San Bernardo National Natural Park, which gathers coral reefs and extensive marine pastures, where many marine species live, is the perfect destination to connect with nature and the ideal place for those who want to learn and know the mysterious underwater world. 


How to get to Múcura Island? 

How to get to Isla Múcura from Cartagena: to get to Isla Múcura from Cartagena you have to get to the La Bodeguita Pier, which is very close to the Clock Tower of the Historic Center, and take a boat for 2 hours.

How to get to Múcura Island from Tolú: to get to Múcura from Tolú you have to go in the morning to the town pier to get transport by boat, the trip is 45 minutes.  

How to get to Múcura Island from San Onofre: in San Onofre, you have to continue towards Rincón del Mar, where you can get there by motorcycle taxi. Once in Rincón del Mar you continue by boat to Isla Múcura.


Where to stay on Múcura Island?

There are some renowned hotels that are known in the area and in which you can stay, these are:

Hotel Isla Múcura: the hotel has a variety of sleeping spaces, from hammocks to kiosks.

Dahlandia: has shared, double or couple rooms. It usually includes all three meals.

Hotel Punta Faro: has rooms for two people and exclusive Deluxe rooms.

Awa Luna: offers very cheap rooms per person in a dormitory with 3 to 4 beds.

What to do on Múcura island?  

In Múcura island you can do countless activities, from swimming in the sea, sleeping in a hammock while the sound of the waves lulls you, canoeing along mangrove trails to walking through the dry forest in search of lazy bears and more. So we have listed a number of activities that you can do in this beautiful place: 


- Discover the underwater world in the Corales del Rosario and San Bernardo National Natural Park:  

The Los Corales del Rosario and San Bernardo National Natural Park is a valuable underwater ecosystem, forming one of the largest coral reefs in the Colombian Caribbean. This is the perfect setting to learn to dive or enjoy snorkeling and observe extensive marine pastures where you can see a great diversity of marine fauna.  

- Enjoy the beautiful beaches:  

In Múcura island you will find a beautiful and calm blue sea on which you will see some floating houses, and public and private beaches ideal to rest under the shade of the trees. It is an ideal tourist destination to travel as a couple or alone, contemplate seascapes and enjoy beautiful beaches, from which you can go diving among coral reefs. 

- Go Kayaking or Paddle Surfing: 

Another of the best things to do in Isla Múcura and Tintipán is to take a quiet kayak or paddle ride through the coastal mangrove forests and the crystal clear waters of the San Bernardo Archipelago. If you like adventure and water sports, going for a ride in a kayak or paddle will be a great idea to go around the island, discover new corners and contemplate the beautiful shades of blue that are painted in the sea. 

- Explore Rincon del Mar

 Rincón del Mar is a charming corregimiento in the municipality of San Onofre, which falls in love with its secluded beaches, dreamy sunsets and the authenticity of the town, it is only 30 minutes by boat from Múcura.


- Walking around Santa Cruz del Islote: 

A few minutes by boat from Múcura is Santa Cruz del Islote, a tiny Colombian Caribbean island that is known as the most densely populated island in the world. When you arrive in Santa Cruz del Islote, you will find an urbanized island with paved streets and islanders who have learned to overcome the difficulties to survive with what the sea provides, community tourism and commitment to the environment.  

- Delight in good food:  

You will also find restaurants at a good price with a lot of variety of dishes and totally delicious.   

- See Bioluminescent plankton:   

If you want to do the plankton tour, you must take into account the phases of the moon, because when there is a full moon it is impossible to see this phenomenon. The moment you leave the island try to do it before 3:00 in the afternoon so you avoid the strong waves.
