Ciénaga la Coroza

Municipality: San Bernardo del Viento

The swamp, with an area of approximately 41 hectares, is characterized by its abundant presence of mangroves due to its estuarine location, where fresh and salt waters mix depending on the tides and rainfall. This environment is the natural habitat of various species, including iguanas, monkeys, howler monkeys and howler monkeys. In addition to the terrestrial fauna, the marsh is home to a great variety of birds, with herons being the most prominent. Among the species present are the red heron (Agamía agamí), the cheleca (Aramides cajanea), the coquito heron (Phimosus infuscatus), the jacana (Jacana jacana), among others. In the marsh is the island of birds, a place where you can observe about 60 species of birds in their natural environment. Access to and conservation of the marsh is controlled and monitored by a local fishermen's association, which offers tours of this beautiful body of water. To protect the marsh, access is restricted to motorized boats, allowing only the use of handcrafted rowing canoes. This measure seeks to preserve the marsh's ecosystem and ensure its long-term sustainability. The swamp represents an important tourist destination for those who wish to enjoy the natural beauty and biodiversity of the area. Canoe tours allow visitors to explore and appreciate up close the richness of the fauna and flora that inhabit this ecosystem. It is essential to continue promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism practices to ensure the conservation of the marsh and its value as a natural habitat.
